Last air bender… too early to tell?

What to look for in the summer of 2010? The upcoming movie “The Last air bender” is based on an animated series, which was created and produced by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. They served as executive producers along with Aaron Ehasz. Avatar is set in an Asian-influenced world[2] of Chinese martial arts and elemental manipulation. The show drew on elements from East Asian (especially Chinese and Japanese) culture, blending the styles of anime and US domestic cartoons.

Winter is upon us in full swing and many expectant sports fanatics know what that means: the Winter Olympics. Many will tune in to NBC, the sole network with the rights to air the 2010 Olympics, to watch figure skating, downhill skiing and curling, as well as some of their other favorite snow-time sports; but among the snowboarding and hockey, there is a deeper issue plaguing this year’s festivities.

In Japan, fishermen are capturing dolphins and shipping them around the world, where they are confined in aquariums and resorts for the remainder of their lives. However, the unfortunate group of dolphins that the fishermen do not ship out are slaughtered and served as food for to unaware dolphin fans and enthusiasts. Japanese authorities and fishermen are continuing to ignore the cries of dolphin fanatics and are arresting anyone who attempts to document their crimes. As a result of the slaughter, the dolphin population is drastically declining.

Trying out new backgrounds

Trying out new backgrounds

in Opinion by Selina

Seeing how bright and flashy megan’s background is (which is totally amazing); I thought it took too much away from the website. I wanted something that wouldn’t stand out too much but still have a pattern in order for the page not too look so dull. Seeing our website with a sold navy blue made it look ok but certainly not unique. Wanting to use  the color I searched for images that would correspond with the navy blue and I stumbled upon this pattern; having fun meshing the two together i created this current background hopefully it worked out but if not it was fun creating it.

How has racism changed through generations?

How has racism changed through generations?

Some people claim that racism in the U.S. has  dissolved over time, but recently it has come to our attention that there are still marks of racism being imprinted in our nation’s history. Up until last year, Charleston High School in Mississippi had been having two separate proms: the “white” prom and the “black” prom. In the movie “Prom Night in Mississippi” Paul Saltzman tells the story of how home town-native Morgan Freeman offers to pay for their 2008 prom, as long as it was a single-integrated prom.

Does Individuality put professionalism at stake?

Hello readers,
I am here to tell you about a recent problem. First, I want to say that my name is Carlos and I am for non-uniform author pages.
As you know, we have made author pages, but they look too dull, common,
and boring right? Well, believe it or not, some people actually liked
it. There was a controversy here, so we decided to take a vote. Of
course, we won, but barely, 7 – 6. By we, I mean the people who wanted
individuality, creativity, and above all a reflection on who we are. We
didn’t want our pages to be like all the others. But the
other side argued that uniformed pages, pages with same format, look
"professional" and "cleaner", they didn’t point out that it is
unoriginal and bland. Naturally, we decided that since the group was
pretty much split in two, we would have to keep discussing the
situation until we reached a compromise. After a few minutes of
debating, we decided we would wait for everyone to do the basic format,
and then we would tweak them. Hope you enjoyed reading this as much as
we did having the actual debate; this has been yet another look into
the SMASHCASTERS.
