My name is Jose Virgil Almeda, but just Virgil in almost all occasions. I just turned eighteen years old and I'm just about done with my senior year of high school. I've been a part of Smashcast for a good while, which is a good thing. I've always thought Smashcast was a place where I could have a good time and do something worth while and important at the same time. Other than that my interest, without being too cliche, are listening to a lot of music, watching a lot of NBC on thursday nights, and playing a lot of video games.
On April 19, 2010 the 20th annual Goldman Environmental Awards were held in San Francisco, California. Smashcast got the chance to check it out and we asked the youth about what they that young people could do to contribute to the Green Movement.
I have been quiet for awhile, but I can assure you it was for good reason. The past month or two, I have been learning a program called 3D Studio Max. Things got complicated fast, but after some trial and error and a little more trial and error, I was able to make something presentable.
With all my other assignments done. I had pretty much nothing to do. Well I couldn’t just do nothing so Simon and I decided to mess with 3-D because, why not?
Instead of choosing one Background, we chose a lot. Each of use made our own backgrounds and right now they are circulating through the site. I made this cool little piece of crumpled paper with doodles on it. Press F5 a few times and you can the rest.
The Smashcasters had an opportunity to meet with One Web Day’s Executive Director and produced this video about how they see the digital divide manifested in their communities and some strategies for overcoming it.

For 3 days in September of this year, Tides hosted its Momentum conference at the W hotel in San Francisco. The basic gist behind momentum is that it "brings together some of the world’s most innovative thinkers and dedicated activists to challenge, inspire, and energize each other." And for three straight days its does just that. Speakers from far and wide come and share their minds, passions, and solutions through themed plenary sessions and discussion. As Smashcast, we got the opportunity to sit in and participate in the conference. That along with documenting a good portion of it too. As pretty much the youngest group of people attending the conference, I thought it was a good idea to look into the youths perspective to it The following consist of the Smashcast experience to progressiveness at it's best.
One cent isn’t very useful in everyday life, but is the economy better off without it? The US mint is responsible for producing American currency and Millions of dollars are produced there daily. Lately, however, producing one penny at the US mint cost 2 pennies. Essentially the US mint is losing money trying to make money.
